A challenging itinerary to discover the heart of the Monti della Luna (Moon Mountains) in Alta Val Susa, which offers strong emotions and beautiful lunar landscapes!
The route crosses the territory that in winter gives life to the Vialattea ski slopes. Departing from Cesana Torinese to reach Claviere, the itinerary includes several climbs, some of them demanding, necessary to cross the valleys that make up this area known as Monti della Luna, also passing through Val Thuras. The end of the route is near the Claviere tourist information office, from where it is possible, along the asphalted road, to descend back to the starting point.

Immerse yourself in breathtaking landscapes, ride along ancient military roads and discover the secrets of the Janus Fort, witness to the epic battles of the Alps during World War II. Along the way, you’ll find yourself riding the evocative single-track that runs alongside the Chenaillet geological path, and that’s not all: the culmination of this adventure will take you to the Lake of the 7 Colours, a true spectacle of nature that you can’t help but admire. At this point of the itinerary, an intriguing variant opens up for the more experienced bikers, the descent to Capanna Mautino and Lake Nero.
Above the Susa Valley, the Monti della Luna plateau unfolds. The trail to the Lago di Sette Colori (Lake of Seven Colours) winds its way through it: a Mother Nature flow trail adventure!
In the Western Alps, the French and Italians are heavily armed against each other along their border. Here, too, a dense network of old military trails winds from fort to fort. The Val di Susa is particularly rewarding for mountain bikers, where this tour of trails to the Lago di Sette Colori starts at the end of the valley, near Claviere. A desert-like, lunar landscape where the trail picks up speed for 6 km until it reaches the beautiful Lake of 7 Colours!
