THE 42 LAURETANA GOLDEN EGG STAYS ON HOME SLOPES AND GOES TO THE SESTRIERE SKI CLUB

30 March 2025

On the slopes of the Vialattea, it was an intense weekend of fun and competition for the young athletes who took part in the 42 Lauretana Golden Egg. On Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30, 1592 athletes gathered at the starting gate for the giant slalom. They came from all over Italy and even from abroad to compete for the renowned trophy. The event, in fact, provided an excellent opportunity for international comparison, with athletes representing no less than six nations: Italy, France, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland, and Slovenia.

The traditional end-of-season event, organized by the Sporting Club Sestrieres with the support of the Municipality of Sestriere, took place over two days of competition this year. The first day was dedicated to the Pupils and Juniors categories, while the second focused on the Cubs, Baby, and Super-Baby categories.

The competitors raced on the Olympic slopes of Sestriere, which had recently hosted Alpine Ski World Cup events. In the race finish area, a festive sponsor village was set up, featuring stands from prestigious companies to entertain both the public and the competitors. As is tradition, at the end of the race, all participants received the classic chocolate egg.

The afternoon was enlivened by the colorful parade of all the Ski Clubs through the streets of the village, while the notes of the Corpo Musicale di Villar Perosa accompanied the young athletes to the eagerly awaited prize-giving ceremony and the classic prize drawing for the luckiest participants. Confirming the significance of the event for the region and winter tourism, the Piedmont Region and the Regional Council granted their patronage to the event. The President of the Regional Council, Davide Nicco, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency, Claudia Porchietto, attended the parade and prize-giving ceremony, along with the Mayor of Sestriere, Gianni Poncet.

All the winners of the 2025 edition: starting with the oldest athletes, the Allievi category, who competed on the first day, saw two athletes share the top spot on the podium—Giovanni Ceccarelli from Sci Club Borgata Sestriere and Mattia Bruno Tondo from Sci Club ASKILL Livigno. It was a challenge decided by the narrowest of margins, highlighting the high competitive level of the event. In the women’s field, the fastest was Lavinia Sambuco from Sci Club Livata. In the Ragazzi category, Edoardo Badaracco from Sci Club Les Arnauds and Anna Reita from Sci Club Sestriere emerged as winners.

On the second day, the best in the Cuccioli category were Giorgio Zanardi from Sci Club 18 and Sveva Di Gallo from Sci Club Cortina. Moving on to the Baby category, Leonardo Santià from Sci Club Sansicario Cesana and Valentina Carmellino from Ski Team Valsesia topped the standings. To conclude with the very youngest, in the Super Baby category, the winners were Tommaso Bertoli from Ski Team Valsesia and Margherita Monnier from Sci Club Sansicario Cesana.

The 42 Lauretana Golden Egg stayed on home slopes and was awarded to Sci Club Sestriere, with 350 points earned thanks to the best placing of both a female and a male in each category (excluding Super Baby). In second place was the Equipe Pragelato Ski Club with 301 points, followed by Sci Club Sansicario Cesana with 262 points. Among the foreign clubs, Pas Grau from Andorra took first place with 104 points, closely followed by the Spanish Mitico Club with 101 points, and Soldeu from Andorra with 32 points.
