28 March 2024
This year there will be a super record number of participants for the 41st Uovo d’Oro Lauretana, the classic Easter event organised by Vialattea. Thanks also to the excellent snow conditions, 2,039 athletes will be at the starting gate of the Giant Slalom valid for the awarding of the coveted trophy. Over 200 athletes more than the previous record number of participants dating back to the 2002 edition. The participants come from all over Italy and also from abroad and in particular this year from France, Switzerland, Spain and the furthest from Hong Kong!
The appointment is set for Saturday 30 March on the Olympic slopes of Sestriere. In the Alpette area there will be simultaneous races along 5 tracks, one per category: the Allievi will compete on the Sises2 track, the Ragazzi on Sises 3, the Cuccioli on the Kandahar G.A. Agnelli, the Babies on the Standard and the youngest, the Super Babies, will race on the Super Baby track.
The 41st Lauretana Golden Egg will start at 8.30 a.m. for the Allievi, Ragazzi, Cuccioli categories, at 9.00 a.m. for the Baby, while the youngest, the Super Baby, will start at 9.30 a.m. At the end of the race, all participants will gather in the finish parterre and receive the classic chocolate egg.
In the afternoon, thecheerful and colourful parade of all the Ski Clubs through the village streets will take place. Due to the extraordinary number of participants, the competition time will be lengthened, and consequently the start of the parade has been slightly postponed compared to the initial programme.
The meeting point is Piazzale Kandahar – opposite Casa Olimpia. Starting at 2.00 p.m., each Ski Club will collect its own identification sign and at 2.30 p.m. the parade through the streets of the town will begin, ending in Piazza Fraiteve where, at 2.45 p.m., the prize-giving ceremony and drawing of fantastic prizes for athletes and Ski Clubs will take place.
The luckiest will win a voucher worth 2,500 euro offered by Vialattea in collaboration with Centro Sci Torino for the purchase of a trip. Other prizes in the draw will include sports equipment of various kinds, technological and leisure articles, and many surprise prizes!
The ski club to beat is Sestriere, which won the trophy in the last edition!
