The past weekend was undoubtedly an unforgettable one in Vialattea, with three races in Sestriere as part of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, which gave fans plenty of thrilling moments. The Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli slope showcased the talents of two great champions: Federica Brignone, who took a double win in the Giant Slalom, further solidifying her position as the leader in the overall standings, and Mikaela Shiffrin, who, in Sestriere on the Vialattea slopes, claimed her 100th World Cup victory. No skier has ever reached triple digits in World Cup wins before.
There was also a record-breaking crowd, with over 33,000 spectators attending the races over the three days. There was a great turnout at the sponsor village and in Fraiteve Square, where the presentation of the 2025 Giro d’Italia took place on Saturday evening, along with the announcement of the queen stage, the Verrès-Colle delle Finestre – Sestriere (Vialattea), which is the penultimate stage scheduled for May 31. The guest of honor was Vincenzo Nibali, who received the “Trofeo senza fine,” the final award engraved with the names of all the winners of the Giro d’Italia, including Nibali’s two victories.
The packed Fraiteve Square also hosted the Giant’s prize ceremony and the bib draw for Sunday’s Slalom, preceded by a performance of “The Space Violin” by Andrea Casta. Andrea Casta also performed at the finish line on both Saturday and Sunday between the two heats. Equally exciting was the flyover by the Carabinieri Paratroopers of Tuscania, who released the flags of the Arma and a large Tricolor that soared across the Vialattea slopes.
It was truly a one-of-a-kind weekend filled with sports, skiing, and entertainment, leading us directly into the Carnival season, with the Vialattea slopes now ready to welcome skiers in costume.
