Sestriere had the honor of hosting one of the first Ski World Cup races, back in 1967, with France’s Jean Claude Killy winning the men’s downhill on the legendary Kandahar Banchetta slope, while, Giustina Demetz and Marielle Goitschel finished tied on the top step of the podium in the women’s. In its long competitive history, Sestriere, has organized no less than 67 World Cup races (30 men’s and 37 women’s) to which must be added the 1997 World Ski Championships and the XX Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Turin 2006.

More than half a century of history during which the world’s greatest champions have competed on the snows of the Vialattea. Among them Alberto Tomba, a 6-time winner in Sestriere, was an undisputed protagonist of the scene from 1987 to 1994. It was Tomba himself who dominated at in Sestriere, in 1994, in the first ever FIS World Cup night slalom.
