Right in the middle of the Vialattea ski resort, Cesana has always played a key role in military and commercial terms, serving as a natural crossroads for Alpine trade and goods transit between Italy and France. This charming town also lies along the first Italian stretch (straight after the French border) of the historic Via Francigena road. Amazing cycling feats have taken place on these roads during the Giro d’Italia, and each year they host the “Cesana-Sestriere”, the European Historic Cars Championship.
Cesana was one of the venues chosen for the 20th Olympic Winter Games Turin 2006, hosting the contests for women’s alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh and luge.
