Vialattea means “The Milky Way” in Italian, and Sestriere is the brightest star in our firmament.
Sestriere regularly plays host to internationally-acclaimed sports events, including numerous editions of the Alpine Ski World Cup. Then, in 2006 an outstandingly important event took place: the 20th Olympic Winter Games of Turin. Sestriere was chosen as one of the three Olympic Villages.
The two (red and white) towers silhouetted against the skyline symbolise the spirit of the town. Built in 1930 at the behest of Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of FIAT, they were purpose-built to serve as a holiday retreat for the workers at the FIAT factory plant in Turin.
