The eighth edition of the international mountain cinema event - Sestriere Film Festival 2018 – will be held in Sestriere at the Cinema Fraiteve from 28th July to 4th August.
And more – it will culminate in a musical finale on Sunday 5th August at 11:30am at the Rifugio Alpette. The concert with its international repertoire will see vocalist Gabriella Mazza accompanied by the guitar of Maestro Paolo Manzolini.
Organised by the Associazione Montagna Italia in collaboration with the Comune di Sestriere, Consorzio Turistico Via Lattea, Cai Regione Piemonte, Città Metropolitana di Torino and Regione Piemonte, the highest Mountain Cinema Festival in Europe at 2,035m has always proved a success both with the media and the audience who attend with great interest and enthusiasm.
The international competition for mountain-themed films put forward by directors and production companies from all over the world closed on 31st May. Over 150 pieces were received and the selection Committee chose 22 of the best.
The Jury who will select the winning films is made up of Piero Carlesi as Chairperson together with Giovanni Verga and Nicola Bionda.
As well as the final films, each evening will open with the projection of fifteen photographs on the subject of the mountain, chosen from all those entered in the photographic competition promoted by the “Spirit of the mountain” circuit, Network di Festival set up by the Associazione Montagna Italia of which the Sestriere Film Festival is part.
Two out-of-competition films will open and conclude the Festival, directed by Reinhold Messner: “Still alive”, thanks to the collaboration with the CAI Cinematography Centre and “Holy mountain”.
Guests will include: author Giancarlo Pavan who will be presenting his book “Aspettami sulla cima”, the Comando delle Truppe Alpine who will show a recently produced film 5 Torri, on the Dolomites, the Ente di Gestione dei Sacri Monti which will narrate the mountains that are home to the Sacri Monti in two works and the Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa - Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia who will show us some historical local films.
These evening events will start at 9pm at the Cinema Fraiteve; free entry.
The Festival is part of the “Mountain Week” organised by the Comprensorio della Via Lattea involving a number of events including “Walking with the Festival”, eight morning walks accompanied by Nordic Walking instructor Roberto Miletto, in collaboration with the Guide Alpine del Piemonte. Starting at 9:30am these walks will depart from the new branch of the ATL.
