1,500 participants have already enrolled in the Granfondo Sestriere Colle delle Finestre, a new return of the cycling event to be held on Sunday 22nd July and valid as final test of the Piedmont Cup 2018 circuit. Cyclists will race against each other along the Cima Coppi of the Giro d’Italia 2018 with the final epic 8km of dirt track ascent. Two routes: the 117.7km GranFondo with an elevation gain of 3,200m and the 93km long MedioFondo with an elevation gain of 2,400m.
Two whole days to celebrate cycling also considering the participation of some cyclists from the UAE Team Emirates, World Tour professional training run by Giuseppe Saronni, in preparation for the Colle del Sestriere in which they will be participating until 25th July along the roads of Piedmont’s Olympic mountains.
The Granfondo Sestriere Colle delle Finestre has been nominated by AMSI as the 14th Italian Championships of Ski Experts – Road Cycling. An important nomination which perfectly links the winter and summer sports of Sestriere – the highest small town in Italy and renowned as the fatherland of skiing.
THE RACE – Two parallel and equally exciting routes. Participants will depart at 9:30am from Piazza Fraiteve in Sestriere. They will reach Cesana Torinese, at a controlled speed, where the official race will start. Forty kilometres of technical descent will lead the group to Meana di Susa at the foot of the Colle delle Finestre ascent, Cima Coppi of the Giro d’Italia number 101 and of this event. At an altitude of 2178 metres, at the end of the dirt track stretch, the GPM Banca Mediolanum will be awarded and the participants will throw themselves into the descent towards Usseaux and Pragelato.
From Pragelato they will embark on the day’s second ascent which will lead them to Sestriere. For those on the Mediofondo route, the exhaustion stops here, while those choosing the Granfondo will descend to Grangesises, and cross Cesana Torinese to then climb again to Sestriere pedalling along the SP 23 to the finish line in Piazza Fraiteve.

E-BIKE - The Granfondo Sestriere Colle delle Finestre is held against a unique landscape that is as prestigious as that of more famous events and so that as many enthusiasts as possible can take part, the organisation committee has decided to open the doors to electric bikes. E-bike owners will be able to pedal alongside the other participants as long as they communicate the use of this vehicle at the moment of registration.
PROGRAMME –Saturday 21st July from 3pm to 7pm and Sunday 22nd July from 7am to 9am the secretary’s office in the Sports Centre of Sestriere will be open for the distribution of registration numbers and race packs. At 9am the grids will open for the departure of the Granfondo and at 9:30am for the Mediofondo. Expected finish time for the Mediofondo is 12:20am while that the Granfondo athletes are expected to arrive in Piazza Fraiteve at 1:10pm. Maximum time allowed is 6.5 hours and the finish line will be closed around 4pm.
